situation and environment

Easy Street Retreat is a five acre (2 ha) property located in the upper Bellinger Valley on the north coast of NSW Australia. The Bellinger River borders the Retreat. Here you will see platypus, turtles, eels, catfish. bearded dragons and endangered freshwater cod. On the other side of the river is the Bellinger River National Park, a wilderness of rainforest, steep slopes, valleys, streams and waterfalls. It is equi-distant from both Bellingen and Dorrigo - a 30 min drive.


region and townships

From the 1970s until the present, alternative life-stylers moved into the area. Today the area boats a divergent and vibrant mix of the old and the new with many residents involved in creative activities - artists, craftspeople, writers, musicians environmentalists and horticulturists, to nam,e just a fwew.


Bellingen is a small town about half an hour's drive east from the Retreat. It has a supermarket, hospital, general practitioners, chemist, estate agents, restaurants, coffee shops and other specialty shops.


Bellingen has a strong affinity with the arts and is home to numerous once yearly festivals including the popular  Bellingen Jazz and Blues FestivalCamp Creative, the Bellingen Music Festival (classical music), the Bellingen Art Prize, Bellingen River Festival, and the Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival. Other more regular events include the Bellingen Community Market, the Bellopy Organic Market and Bello Bards to name just a few.


About the same distance to the west lies Dorrigo which hosts the yearly Folk and Bluegrass Festival.


Bellingen also host the twice yearly Plant Fair conducted by the Bellingen Environment Centre. These fairs attract many thousand visitors to the town and the 55 stall-holders concentrate on selling native plants to enhance the natural beauty of the district.
